Photo #21 above:  In 1978 a photographer wandered around Shingleroof and photographed families gathered on their tent porches. Here we see Dovie Lee Bryans Elliott, seated in rocking chair, surrounded by her family. The Elliott's have lived in Henry County since 1825 and five generations of the family have enjoyed using this tent since it was constructed in 1944. The tent was constructed-by Frank Fargason for the Elliott's right after he completed construction of the Old Hotel. Note that a concrete slab floor has replaced the old dirt covering of sawdust or shavings. (Photo courtesy of Marcella Elliott Mote)

Photo #22 above:  The Clint Crumbley family gathers to be photographed on the front porch of their tent in 1978. George Alexander and Jim Fields originally constructed this two story tent in the 1930's, later it became the youth tent of nearby Salem Baptist Church and the Crumbleys acquired the tent from Salem. Note the upstairs prop open shutters are closed in this photo, you can see they are singly hinged at the top. Also note the ground is covered with sawdust, which has a finer texture than the shavings seen in the previous photograph of the Morris Tent. (Photo courtesy of Tami Stonecypher)

Photo #23 above:  The Shingleroof Sesquicentennial celebration m 1980 marked the 150th campmeeting at Shingleroof. One of the special events was a parade around the grounds led by a modern covered wagon. Those who dressed in old time costumes followed the wagon around the campground, while those gathered on the tent porches cheered them on. The wagon is passing in front of the youth tents of McDonough and Flippen Methodist Churches. (Photo courtesy of Dr. Randy Daniel)

Photo #24 above:  Over the years the Shingleroof Tabernacle has been the site of many weddings and several funerals. Here we see Patricia Stancliff and Heath W. Love, Jr. at the altar on September 8~, 1984. Patricia is the granddaughter of William and Mamie Cook, who operated the Old, Old Shingleroof Hotel for many years in the early 1900's. Photo #25 above:  Campmeeting is a great time for socializing with friends and family. Here we see Dr. Gene Crumbley, with mug raised, enjoying cake and coffee with family and friends at Campmeeting in 1980. Note the sawdust floor and the old model refrigerator. The tents at Shingleroof are all furnished with an interesting hodgepodge of cast off furniture and appliances. Campmeeting is the ultimate in simplicity and it is absolutely unpretentious.
